——

God had entered the world as a baby.

Yet, were someone to chance upon the sheep stable on the outskirts of Bethlehem that morning, what a peculiar scene they would behold.

The stable stinks like all stables do. The stench of urine, dung, and sheep reeks pun- gently in the air. The ground is hard, the hay scarce. Cobwebs cling to the ceiling and a mouse scurries across the dirt floor.

A more lowly place of birth could not exist.

… God became a man. While the creatures of earth walked unaware, Divinity arrived. Heaven opened herself and placed her most precious one in a human womb.

The Omnipotent, in one instant, made himself breakable. He who had been spirit became pierceable. He who was larger than the universe became an embryo. And he who sustains the world with a word chose to be dependent upon the nourishment of a young girl.

God as a fetus. Holiness sleeping in a womb. The creator of life being created.

God was given eyebrows, elbows, two kidneys, and a spleen. He stretched against the walls and floated in the amniotic fluids of his mother.

God had come near.

He came, not as a flash of light or as an unapproachable conqueror, but as one whose first cries were heard by a peasant girl and a sleepy carpenter. The hands that first held him were unmanicured, calloused, and dirty.

No silk. No ivory. No hype. No party. No hoopla.

Were it not for the shepherds, there would have been no reception. And were it not for a group of stargazers, there would have been no gifts.

Angels watched as Mary changed God’s diaper…

He looks anything but a king. His face is prunish and red. His cry, though strong and healthy, is still the helpless and piercing cry of a baby. And he is absolutely dependent upon Mary for his well-being.

Majesty in the midst of the mundane. Holiness in the filth of sheep manure and sweat. Divinity entering the world on the floor of a stable, through the womb of a teenager and in the presence of a carpenter.

This baby had overlooked the universe. These rags keeping him warm were the robes of eternity. His golden throne room had been abandoned in favor of a dirty sheep pen. And worshiping angels had been replaced with kind but bewildered shepherds.

Meanwhile, the city hums. The merchants are unaware that God has visited their planet. The innkeeper would never believe that he had just sent God into the cold. And the people would scoff at anyone who told them the Messiah lay in the arms of a teenager on the outskirts of their village. They were all too busy to consider the possibility.

Those who missed His Majesty’s arrival that night missed it not because of evil acts or malice; no, they missed it because they simply weren’t looking.

Little has changed in the last two thousand years, has it?

One of God’s best gifts to man is the silence of the soul that allows us to connect with our divine PEACEMAKER.

Everyday I try to look for God’s message. Occasionally there are days when God seems to be silent. We usually feel frustrated by this. But isn’t His presence the message?

Don’t be frustrated by “God’s silent treatment.”  He might be honing your spiritual ears. And when all other voices are hushed, He speaks in the stillness of your soul.

What do I do when God seems silent.

1. I try to lean my spiritual ears closer. He might have been speaking all along but it seems that I am on a different frequency.

2. I confess of signal blockers – sins and SIN.

3. Obey him. What’s the last thing God told you to do and you just disregarded him. Light shines through obedience.

4. Just savor his presence. There are times when it seems I couldn’t understand his message. I do know God is there with me. And that assurance is enough that I am with my Father even if we don’t speak.

I’m SAD  TO KNOW that starting November 22, 2011, Facebook no longer supports automatic import of web/blog content to Facebook notes. My ardisonbernardo.com blog is synchronized  with my Facebook notes. And so is Twitter (iPhone) where all my posts are composed and reposted on my Facebook wall automatically. I hope this automatic Twitter import doesn’t get cut-off in the future.

Facebook, why so much CONTROL? You already have 800 million followers. What more? You want all sites to close and just use Facebook 24/7 for ads, blog, info, entertainment, games, etc.?  :(

Got this notice today -

Changes to How You Share Content in Notes

You currently automatically import content from your website or blog into your Facebook notes. Starting November 22nd, this feature will no longer be available, although you’ll still be able to write individual notes. The best way to share content from your website is to post links on your Wall.  Learn more about notes.

HAPPY 30TH ANNIVERSARY to PHILIPPINE INTERNATIONAL CHURCH at the Adventist University of the Philippines!

Theme:  ONE  PIC @ 30

One Peculiar People in Christ @ 30

Hi there!  God bless you today. It’s a joy for me right now to be able to greet Gods church in the Adventist University of the Philippines (AUP).  Happy 30th Anniversary!

I’m pastor Ardison Bernardo, presently serving Bramalea Filipino-Canadian church here in Brampton city. I’m the husband of Cindy Bernardo whom I met in AUP. Father of three cute chilren: Sean- born while I was youth pastor in AUP, Fiona, and Iya.  Philippine International Church  (PIC) and AUP is HOME for me -  from college years, 5 years as theology student, 4 years as Instructor in the College of Theology, and a total of  4 years as youth pastor of our beloved church. That’s almost half of my lifetime.

I love PIC! I hope that you do too. Philippine International Church is not just one of the biggest church in Asia. It is a church that never grows old. Always young. Always vibrant. Always fresh. In fact ,  90 percent  of  PIC’s worshippers are young people.

At the very center of AUP’s spiritual life is our beloved PIC family.  Why do I love PIC?  I just couldn’t imagine how I would have become a pastor today without PIC’s remarkable contributions.  I first learned to teach my first Sabbath school class at PIC, been a leader of a small group, a president of one of the student ministries, and later as chairman of the Youth Ministry Coordinating Council in my senior years.. Later I would be a youth pastor of this church family for almost two terms.

My spiritual life has been transformed, revived, reformed, has matured, through the spiritual environment that PIC and AUP provided.

(At PIC) Minds are still constantly being challenged to strive for excellence. Spirits are roused to holiness. Gifts are being engaged to serve the living God.

To my dear young people, campus life can be stressful. There’s just  so many expectations: goals to be reached; friends who demand time from us; people who look up to us; our parents wishing the best from us.  Our future awaits us.

Amidst the busy student life, it’s easy  forget the simple message of the Bible  -  that God loves us unconditionally.  If you are right now, trying to find your identity, meaning, purpose, and directions,  make PIC family your family.

If you want to make the most out of your student life, you have to give spirituality a try. I’ve seen many successful professionals who live happy, fulfilled lives because they kept their eyes on Jesus. I invite you to do just the same. And just like any other relationships, our walk with God has to be intentional. God has great things in store for you. He will surprise you by giving you the desires of your heart.

But you won’t see it unless you make Him the desire of your heart. As you stay in campus continue to:

  1. Meditate on God’s love. His love for you is eternal, unconditional, unlimited.  God is committed to love you, a love that is deeper and more secure than any love you have known. Bask in God’s love and mercy.
  2. Another tip to make the most out of your student life is serve God. Don’t wait for the church leadership to tap you on the shoulder. Volunteer in the various ministries and departments of church. Our vision for PIC’s youth ministries is to organize 50 Student Ministries or organizations in the campus.  Why not start one? Begin serving God and when you look back, you will cherish those wonderful memories of friends and people you’ve helped experienced God. There are tremendous opportunities for ministry and service in the campus if you’ll get involved.

Every right decision you make unfolds to a beautiful picture of your future and witness. Isn’t it nice to look back and have someone say about us, “I saw God’s love in that person.”

To our dear church leaders in AUP, kindly involve more young people to play important roles in the leadership of the church as PIC after all is a youth church.

Today as we celebrate PIC’s thirtieth anniversary, it is my prayer that we will continue to build and strengthen communal camaraderie in our church family. “ONE PIC – One PEOPLE IN CHRIST.

Paul says in 1 Timothy 6:11-12, “ But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses”
How do we as a church family fight the fight of faith successfully? Filipinos are known for their spirit of bayanihan. Bayanihan is a Filipino term that refers to “a spirit of communal unity or effort to achieve a particular objective.”

May we continue to be  ONE PEOPLE IN CHRIST committed to camaraderie in the fight of faith and united in living out God’s mission for His church.

I rejoice with you right now as God has certainly lead this church to  greatness.  May we continue to lift up the cross before the world and our lives. It is my prayer that PIC will be home for thousands of souls awaiting for Christ’s return, sending future workplace missionaries across the lands and the seas.

May we be reminded that the Christian life of faith and love cannot be lived successfully in isolation. Let us be ONE in  fighting the good fight of faith! May we hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering and keep on loving each other!

Happy 30th Anniversary Philippine International Church!

Today as we celebrate the Philippine Independence day in Canada, it is my prayer that we will continue to build and strengthen communal camaraderie in our church.

Paul says in Timothy 6:11-12, “ But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses”

How do we fight the fight of faith successfully? Filipinos are known for their spirit of bayanihan. Bayanihan is a Filipino term that refers to “a spirit of communal unity or effort to achieve a particular objective.”

In the same spirit, may our Filipino members continue to inspire and commit ourselves to camaraderie in the fight of faith; to stay united in living out God’s mission for His church; to promote community spirit among the Filipinos by participating in civic and social events; and to celebrate our rich cultural values and social heritage.

One way our church can foster community spirit in our area is by providing assistance to newly landed immigrants. This is indeed a great challenge. Here are a few facts about Filipino immigrants:

  • Currently around 500,000 Filipino Canadians are in Canada (410,695 in 2006)
  • Filipino-Canadians are the third largest Asian-Canadian group after Indian and Chinese communities.
  • Filipinos are the largest southeast Asian group in the country.
  • On average, 20,500 Filipino immigrants came between 2001-2006
  • 1 out 2 Filipinos in Canada call Greater Toronto Area (GTA) home.
  • GTA receives 9,500 Filipino immigrants every year.
  • In GTA, Filipinos are the fourth largest visible minority behind the Chinese, Indian, and Black communities.
  • Tagalog is the seventh most-spoken language in the city of Toronto.
  • Peel Region (Brampton,Caledon,Mississauga) has around 42,900 Filipinos.

Let us be reminded that the Christian life of faith and love cannot be lived successfully in isolation. Let us fight the good fight of faith! May we hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering and keep on loving each other!

Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!

Our  ”40 Days” of  Midweek LifeGroup meetings recently culminated its first quarter of  intercession. If you’ve missed  the group sessions, here are a few updates:

*United Prayer Focus – We claim this promise: “Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.  For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them” Matt. 18:19,20.   May I ask our elders and everyone to relay all prayer requests  to the pastor which will then be disseminated to the prayer groups before Wednesday evening.

*Prayer Partners – Pick a partner within your group, pray for your partner at least once a week in person or via phone/email/text. Then pray for our united prayer focus items.

*Am/Pm Individual/Family Prayers – We don’t have a specific time for our individual/family united prayers as long as we commit ourselves to pray for our spiritual growth, families, and united prayer list in the morning and evening.

Why are we holding our prayer meetings outside the church?

Just a few good reasons are:

1. Fellowship- The individual is nurtured by his fellow believers in an environment of acceptance, sharing, study, worship and prayer.

2. Discipleship-The groups meeting at home works to provide a “non-threatening” environment where non-members are encouraged and helped to learn more about God’s Word and are enabled to become disciples of Jesus.

3. Ministries – Most Christians never grow because they stop at nurture, worship, and fellowship. The group should not only share with each other, but should reach out together in meeting the needs of others, thus enlarging the group.

By holding our prayer meetings outside the church we are hoping and praying that we will be able to reach out to our love ones with the Word of God and at the same time minister to their needs. We are bringing the church to them and at the same time help ourselves grow spiritually in the process.

Don’t miss this limited offer for free. I just received an email from YouVersion and I am sharing this with you. Please promote this to all your friends. Forward it in your emails and post the links on your social network page.

Thank God for new beginnings!  2011 promises a brand new start.

Today, let me share with you some object lessons from the computer.

Computers need a restart to refresh the system, clear the cache, fix the bugs (glitches), & install updates. In similar ways, that’s what we need to do everyday: a fresh spiritual system restart with God.

Here’s how our devotional moments with God can help you:

1. Refreshes your spiritual system giving your soul renewed life. When a computer restarts, it loads the operating system files which is necessary to run all other applications. It refreshes the system memory and reorganizes the system files on your hard disk for a quicker response. A fresh restart with God every morning, helps us reorganize our lives according to God’s priorities so we can apply His will for our lives. Without a fresh system restart with God, our lives are clunky, slow, disorganized and prone to errors.

2. Clears your heart’s cache of unhealthy attitudes and memories. This gives new room for the Spirit, filling your heart with His precious promises and the fruit of the Spirit. Cache in computers stores the much needed data so that future requests for that data can be served faster. By priming your heart with the Word of God first thing in the morning, you are able to fill your heart’s cache with the much needed instructions to instantly guide your thoughts and activities for the day. Your decisions are quicker and your goals are easily completed. Why? Because your heart is wiser; your motivation, God-driven; your focus, God-centered; your life, Jesus-inspired.

3. Fixes the spiritual bugs in your life. Sometimes you just don’t understand why your computer is acting in certain ways you are not sure of whether it’s broken or infected by a computer virus. “Software bug is the common term used to describe an error, flaw, mistake, failure, or fault in a computer program or that produces an incorrect or unexpected result, or causes it to behave in unintended ways. Most bugs arise from mistakes and errors made by people in either a program’s source code or its design” -Wikepedia.  God made us perfect in His image. But sin has distorted God’s image in us producing all sorts of sinful bugs and glitches in our lives. Through a daily system restart with God, these bugs are being patched and corrected as we are being transformed into the image of God more and more each day.

4. Installs important updates in our spiritual lives. Computer softwares need to be constantly updated as they improve.  We don’t come to the point in our Christian lives when we already know everything about God. Christian maturity is a life-long process. We keep on updating our lives with the truth found in the Word of God. And the Word of God is always fresh, error-free, relevant, and electrifying. It’s good to listen to sermons and sing praise songs but nothing updates us on a more intimate level as the Master technician himself works in us by personally encoding His life in us through His words.

Have you had your spiritual system restart today?

GOING DEEPER:

Does your heart  core i5 processor need an upgrade?

Do you keep darling sins in your hard drive?

Do you harbor sinful thoughts in your DDR3 memory?

What other parts of your life need upgrading?

Have you encoded God’s word in your system today?

2011 is here!

A brand new year for all of us!  And there is something about a fresh start that gives hope to everyone, young and old.

Whether you make a new year’s  resolution or not, I pray that  you will honor and give glory to our Creator, Savior, and King in all that you do, say, and think.

Starting today, may your heart be wiser; your spirit, committed; your faith steadfast, your will  resolute, your persistence, consistent; your motivation, God-driven; your focus, God-centered; your life, Jesus-filled.

Psalm 37:5-6, “Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.”

All glory to God!  WELCOME 2011!
