Facebook and Twitter users, be aware of “pishing” scams, attacks, & tactics that bad guys utilize to acquire sensitive information such as usernames and passwords. Once you click the links posted on your inbox, chat box, direct message, it links you to a fake login page. Once you type in your username and password, the scammers use the retrieved info to hack the owner’s account and now victimizes his list of friends and followers by repeating the process of linking them to a fake login page.

Here’s a snapshot of how a hacked account tried to get my interest – “Hi Pastor, What are you doing in this video? LOL Embarassing.” Now the defensive side of me immediately reacted to what this embarassing video could be. But as soon as I clicked the link, I was asked to log-in. I immediately sensed it was a pishing scam. Pishing is a deceitful process to acquire sensitive information. Be aware of this.

How To Avoid Pishing Scams

1. Log out. Be sure to log out when you use a public computer.

2. Check source. If you are asked to provide sensitive information, check out if the source is valid or fake.

3. Verify. Send a message to the username’s account and ask if his/ her account was hacked. If you sense its the hacker who is replying to you, ask personal information that only the user really knows.

4. Change passwords. Make secure password with a combination of letters, sybols, & numbers. Try to change your passwords or rotate a series of passwords in a year. Change your passwords if your account is hacked or better yet open a new account.

5. Follow your instinct. If you sense something fishy, it might be pishing.

If your Mac OSX search engine SPOTLIGHT suddenly started taking much longer time to search a file it normally takes 2-4 seconds to find, then you might be experiencing spotlight problems caused by several reasons you have manually caused or just couldn’t figure out just what went wrong.

To give a quick fix for your spotlight problem download the software SPOTLESS to check, solve, and rebuild your spotlight index. Download Spotless now. The spotless software provides the solution to refresh, check, configure, delete and rebuild your spotlight index for a worry-free lightning fast search.

To learn more about how spotlight works, rebuild spotlight indices, stop spotlight indexing (such as backup volumes or private files/folders), visit the Xlab.com.

I noticed my spotlight started to drag two days ago until it became annoying since it took between 10-15 seconds to find a regular application file on my volume drive. I didn’t take this seriously until now when I was looking for my sermon file. Usually I use EasyFind and Leap for a more advanced search of hard to find files specially if you have one terabyte of data on your backup drives. But for casual search spotlight normally does the job well.

Cheers to SPOTLESS for saving my day!

We encourage everyone to come and join the EASNAC worship gatherings.

Parents, kindly encourage our young people to come and experience these blessings. We don’t know when the next EASNAC convention will be held in Canada again so let us make the most out of this opportunity.

Bramalea Youth Group, let’s get connected to God and listen to powerful messages and enjoy a closer walk with God. I know you will have fun so come and join us.

Our guest speakers are:

Ann Roda, pastor at New Hope Adventist Church in Fulton, Maryland. Ann’s three goals in life: The first is to “be still and know God, ” the second is to be a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ, and the third is to lose those last annoying seven pounds. God called Ann to Pastoral Ministry after she spent 15 years in a corporate career. Her husband Jose Hernandez is a Chaplain Director with Adventist Health Care.

Bing Alabata, an itinerant gospel preacher based in Hinsdale, Illinois. His passion is Christ-centered Biblical preaching and equipping ministers and lay evangelists to do likewise. He takes the following counsel of Ellen White very solemnly: ”Never should a sermon be preached, or Bible instruction in any line be given, without pointing the hearers to ‘the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.’ John 1:29. Every true doctrine makes Christ the center, every precept receives force from His words.” 6T 54

The convention will be held at Sheraton Parkway Toronto North Hotel, Suites and Conference Centre 600 Highway 7 East Richmond Hill, Ontario.

Dear Bramalea church family,

Grateful! That’s what I feel right now. My family is overwhelmed by your gracious love. We are just so excited to serve with you as we experience God together. There is nothing better than a family bonded by the love of Christ. And that’s what you have been to us since we came.

In a week’s time, we are turning one month here in Ontario. Moving is stressful. Although I have moved to various pastoral assignments several times, uprooting one’s family from another country is even more stressful. But here’s a list why we thank God and you for making this move a positive and rewarding experience:

1. GOD’s LOVE FOR HIS BRIDE. And we are part of that worldwide family wherever any of its members are found. Aren’t you grateful that we are His children? I exists to be a pastor and my family enjoys ministering with you. I believe with all my heart that God sent me here to help our church fulfill God’s vision.

2. YOUR WARM WELCOME. My installation during my first Sabbath at Bramalea SDA church is memorable. It was special because you are all special. We enjoyed your smiles, your warm hugs, your hospitality, your kind gestures. You made us feel at home once more.

3. YOUR MATURED LEADERSHIP. I have very good impressions of our leadership and members. I have sensed your maturity as Christians and willingness to bid God’s plan for your lives. My first Sabbath with you was my first exposure to the community as we handed out invitations to the nearby community for our 4th Community Health and Food Fair. Isn’t that a good way to start my family’s ministry here?

4. YOUR HELPING HAND. As we moved to our apartment yesterday, you were there! Hauling, pushing, pulling, fixing, feeding, baby-sitting, setting-up. You are just amazing! And in advance I want to thank you for all the help, support, and gifts. Just a day after moving in, our cabinets are being filled with groceries, dining wares & cooking wares ; our rooms with bed and beddings and closets; a growing number of appliances – microwave oven, vacuum cleaner, rice cooker..;and other stuffs from toys to furnitures.Even the food that we will eat for the day (and even good enough to last for two days!) has already been cooked for us! Thank you! And thank you in advance for your gifts!

5. YOUR SUPPORT. My family’s transition is emotionally stressful. But you were there to help. Thanks for driving us around, for touring us around, for baby-sitting, for welcoming us into your homes, for orienting us about the Canadian life, for assisting in the processing of all necessary papers to get our life and ministry started, and for all other things you do and will do for me, my wife, and my kids. My wife is so thankful for your support. Thanks for bearing with my naughty kids – they are now your kids as well.

6. YOUR PRAYERS. Our conference leaders prayed for a pastor. You prayed for a pastor. I prayed for God’s will. After six months of waiting, God has finally put us together. And you know what? I am excited as to what God is about to do in us, for us, and through us. I am deeply convicted God has sent me to you. Let’s start riding the wave all for His glory!

Again, in behalf of my family, thanks for making us a part of your church family. We can’t wait to meet everyone and be a part of your lives.

Love,

Bernardo Family

P.S. Kindly send this message to all

Attended by more than 1,500 delegates from the whole Luzon area, it has made an impact on the spiritual lives of young people with more than 40 training sessions to choose from, camp fellowships, and power hour messages delivered in the morning and evening by special guest Pastor Ernest Castillo, North American Division Vice-President.

Life is a journey,
a personal journey.
We are all in a journey:
A journey called faith.
Each one on a different part of that journey;
Made meaningful in the context of relationships.
First of all with God,
then with our fellowmen.
All can share God.
Not all can share each other.
For we are bound by time and space.
God initiated this journey.
A privilege he offered.
Never our right.
Freedom is ours to claim;
Eternity is ours to cherish,
As a gift.
Never as a right.
We say we are his children.
And we have every right to claim.
But God is not liable to anyone.
He does not need us.
Surely He wants us.
And what He offers is His life.
Ours to claim.
Ours to live.
A privilege he freely gave.
A privilege we can freely receive.
Not ours to abuse.
The journey of faith,
Ours to enjoy and return to
the Rightful Owner…GOD.

Sometimes we expect too much.
Why people are not on the same pace.
Their journey is too slow.
Perhaps ailing.
Their is a limp in their walk.
We forget it’s not how fast is our stride;
It’s how we value each other.
No one has the right to judge,
Condemn or make careless remarks.
The journey is for us to enjoy,
With God as the end goal.
Each step is one foot closer.
Perhaps not a remarkable trek to others
But a giant step in the eyes of God.
Our right to see and understand ends
where God’s right begins.
His thoughts are not our thoughts,
His ways are not our ways.
His eyes pierces through darkness;
He knows the way,
So do not lose heart.
The biggest step we can make:
Be an inspiration and let others,
Walk according to their faith.
In the end God himself will decide,
In his wisdom what turns the tide.

I wrote this friendship covenant (agreement) way back in 1997 as Cindy (now my wife) and I were getting to know each other. I’ve put it in a picture frame and gave it to her with a special token. As I look back, I see how important commitments are and how important it is to have special written agreements. I am sharing this with you.

A COVENANT OF FRIENDSHIP

Our mutual love for the Lord Jesus led us to decide to commit ourselves into this important relationship of friendship. As we enter into this covenant (promise, contract, binding agreement) of friendship, may these tangible tokens represent our commitment and help remind us of a relationship we need to solidify, value highly, and care personally.

As friends, we promise to be faithful to each other as born of unconditional love. We will stand strongly together and refuse to rely solely on self. Mutuality, not individualism or competition, will mark this precious friendship.

We will not be selfish but will remain loyal to each other. Your interests are to be more important than my own, and , likewise, you will feel the same way about my interests. Our friendship involves a concern for and involvement with the well-being of each other. Thus our friendship will be marked with: unconditional love, personal enjoyment, mutual acceptance, mutual interests, mutual commitment, and mutual loyalty.

Our close frienship will be a result of the application of principles recorded througout the Word of God; a frienship that is prayer-based, Jesus-centered, and Spirit-blessed.

Entering into this rare friendship involves revealing ourselves in confidence to each other. AS faithful friends we promise to keep confidences.

For our friendship to flourish, there will be intimacy to “carry each other’s burdens” (Galatians 6:2). We will have the courage to challenge each other, to fight for each other’s spiritual and relational growth. We will always make time for each other and fight for this friendship.

With God as our witness, we commit ourselves into this binding relationship and begin to nurture a more personal, more intimate friendship. To become one in thought and heart and spirit.
