Your inspirational source for encouraging & equipping the new generation of Christians in the areas of leadership, family, ministry, and technology.

Facebook and Twitter users, be aware of “pishing” scams, attacks, & tactics  that bad guys utilize to acquire sensitive information such as usernames and passwords. Once you click the links posted on your inbox, chat box, direct message, it links you to a fake login page. Once you type in your username and password, the scammers use the retrieved info to hack the owner’s account and now victimizes his list of friends and followers by repeating the process of  linking them to a fake login page.

Here’s a snapshot of  how a hacked account tried to get my  interest – “Hi Pastor, What are you doing in this video? LOL Embarassing.”  Now the defensive side of me immediately reacted to what this embarassing video could be. But as soon as I clicked the link, I was asked to log-in. I immediately sensed it was a pishing scam.  Pishing is a deceitful process to acquire sensitive information.  Be aware of this. how to avoid pishing scams, attacks, hacks

How To Avoid Pishing Scams

1. Log out. Be sure to log out when you use a public computer.

2. Check source. If you are asked to provide sensitive information, check out if the source is valid or fake.

3. Verify. Send a message to the username’s account and ask if his/ her account was hacked. If you sense its the hacker who is replying to you, ask personal information that only the user really knows.

4. Change passwords. Make secure password with a combination of letters, sybols, & numbers. Try to change your passwords  or rotate a series of passwords in a year. Change your passwords if your account is hacked or better yet open a new account.

5. Follow your instinct. If you sense something fishy, it might be pishing.
